airport advisory area. The area within ten miles of an airport without a control tower or where the tower
is not in operation and on which a Flight Service Station is located.

airport advisory service. See AAS.
airport elevation. The highest point of an airport’s usable runways measured in feet above mean sea level.
Airport/Facility Directory. A publication of the Federal Aviation Administration containing information on all airports, seaplane bases, and heliports open to the public. The A/F Directory contains communications data, navigational facilities, and certain special notices and procedures.
airport information desk. An unmanned facility at an airport designed for pilot self-service briefing, flight planning, and filing of flight plans.
airport lighting. The various lighting aids installed on an airport. These include:

airport marking aids. Markings used on runway and taxiway surfaces to identify a specific runway, a runway threshold, a center line, a hold line, etc. A runway should be marked in accordance with its present usage, such as visual, nonprecision instrument, and precision instrument.
airport reservation office. The office responsible for monitoring the operation of the high-density air traffic. This office receives and processes requests for IFR operations at high-density-traffic airports.
airport rotating beacon. A visual aid to navigation located at lighted airports. The color of the beacon flashes indicates the type of airport. The colors and meaning of the more commonly used rotating beacons are:
